According to Reports, The U.K. has delayed its mass deployment of smart meters for a year. In a letter to Parliament, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and Parliament Member Edward Davey writes that more time is needed if the smart grid initiative is to “get off to the best possible start and ensure a quality experience for consumers.”
When coming to the Indian Smart Grid Pilots, most of the energy utilities (DISCOMs) are not aware of exactly how to use the meter data, and currently there are no plans of implementing meter data standards like GREEN BUTTON to initiate consumer empowerment and consumer engagement.
Ministry should engage utility personnels who are involved in these pilots with various training programs on using smart grid standards. This requires at least Six months of time, and authorities should extend the deadline of pilots request for proposals (RFPs) from 15th September, 2013 to 15th March, 2014.
India Smart Grid Task Force should carefully give a thought about this!
